A missing girl.
A lost father.
Murder. Mayhem. Tattoos.
Just another day in Venice Beach.
Where The Sun Don't Shine is the story of Marley, a once successful Hollywood player who's tumbled so far down the ladder of success that he’s got almost nothing left. Just a one room apartment on Venice Beach and a fragile relationship with his 16 year old daughter.
Marley’s at the end of his rope when he gets a phone call from an old producing partner who wants to throw Marley some work. Which sounds great until Marley realizes that the “work” is tracking down a missing actress. An actress who may or may not be dead. Every instinct Marley has tells him to walk away. But the lure of easy money is the single thing that everyone in Hollywood has in common.
Marley finds himself thrust into the back alleys of the film industry. Into a nexus of porn, kidnapping, studio politics and the dream-dead denizens of modern Hollywood. Struggling to do the right thing, and to be a father to his daughter, Marley soon finds that everything is at stake His future, his daughter, even his life…

There is a story somewhere in the muck and mire of this book, but it was way too over-the-top vulgar for my taste (and I am no prude, believe me). I got as far in as 18%, past most every garden variety of foul language known to man, before the protagonist entered what would become a vividly described movie set for a porno flick before I decided enough was enough. I'm a fan of many a hard-boiled mysteries like "Night of the Assassin", "A Deadly Distance", "L. A. Requiem" and "Big City, Bad Blood" but this book was "sick" and I don't mean in a good way. I have since deleted it and have moved on to better reads and am sincerely thankful it was free when I purchased it.Product details

Where The Sun Don't Shine edition by Alex Metcalf Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
Great read. A little raunchy in some parts so be prepared. Overall good book though.
Gritty, nasty, in-your-face Hollywood, this book mentions things I never even thought of...and some characters that are darkly comical in this setting. Fun (in a sick way) ride, good pace, but not overwhelmingly memorable.
This was definitely an interesting book. Nothing quite like I've read before but it held my interest from start to finish. It left me with some questions at the end which drives me nuts when books do that. But overall a good book!
gratuitous perversion. the author had a good story in mind but muddied it up with distasteful episodes that were unnecessary and added nothing to the rest of the tale.
A few typos and grammatical errors otherwise written okay. Man is down and out trying to get back into the swing of a better job, better life, better relationship with his kid, his ex and her new husband.
I rarely do not finish a book, but I made an exception with this one. Just couldn't stomach it. Totally depressing.
I did not care for any of the characters--too sleazy. I'm not a prude either, but this was too much.
I had never read this writer before and did not know what to expect. It was a surprising page-turner. It had elements of Chandler and Hammett. I was a big fan of those black-and-white film noir mystery films of the 1940's. The ones where the hero has a tarnished past and has to redeem himself despite being kicked around from all sides. This tale has a bit of Cornell Woolrich to it, and even some of the feel of that cable TV drama of last season, RAY DONOVAN. I would highly recommend this fast-paced roller-coaster ride through the underbelly of Hollywood and the rundown beach areas that once knew better days. Can't wait to read this book's sequel. Sit down and curl up with this thriller. It's well worth your time.
